Crystal in the House - The Georgian Glassware Collection at North Hills

July 31, 2018

Instead of watching summer re-runs on television, why not revisit some of our most popular Salt Box lectures on selected Tuesday evenings at North Hills Museum.

This program is designed for those who would like to discover and appreciate North Hills Museum and the surrounding community. Each session will include a power point presentation on a selected theme, a guided tour of the collection where applicable and refreshments. Each lecture is $6.00 per person. Registration required, call 902-532-2168.

7pm – 9pm

Join us as we examine the history of glassware in Britain, from the Roman period to the 16th century interpretation of Venetian style glass, to the late 17th century when George Ravenscroft introduced lead oxide to the production process of the beloved clear English Georgian glass created in the 18th century sought after by collectors. We will identify different styles and how politics and war had an effect on design. North Hills Museum has an excellent collection of British glass from the 17th to 19th centuries.
